Choose your adventure!

Fisheating Creek is the only free-flowing tributary that runs into “The Big O” – Lake Okeechobee. While paddling the entire 52-mile distance to the lake isn’t possible, we offer three adventures:

Burnt Bridge

Burnt Bridge

A put-in located 8 miles upstream from the campground is our most popular trip. Fisheating Creek is narrow for much of the distance. Banks are surrounded by towering cypress trees, providing shade on hot summer days. Alligators and turtles are a common sight, as are great blue herons, egrets, ibis, hawks and many more species of birds.
Availability dependent on water levels.

Ingram's Crossing

Ingram Crossing

Ingram's Crossing is 16 miles upstream and recommended for advanced paddlers or those looking for an overnight trip. Camping is permitted along the banks of the river. Sit back and enjoy listening to birds singing and watch the reflections of clouds and trees as you drift through cypress swamps and hardwood hammocks along Fisheating Creek.
Availability dependent on water levels.

Paddle the Creek

Launch directly from the campground and explore the Creek. If you don't have your own boat or would rather not car-top yours, we have canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for you to rent. Our boats are provided with personal flotation devices (life jackets) and paddles. Canoe and kayak rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Availability dependent on water levels.

Water Levels

To canoe with minimal portages, you need about 2 feet of water in the Creek, and for kayaking you need at least 1.5 feet. You can paddle when the water level is less than this but you may have to get out of your boat and portage at several spots along the Creek. Check the water levels of Fisheating Creek or ask us when you arrive.

Basic Rules while Paddling:

  • Florida state law mandates that a child under the age of six (6) must wear a U.S.C.G. approved Type I, II, or III personal flotation device while onboard a vessel under 26 feet in length while the vessel is underway. This includes canoes and kayaks.
  • Bring plenty of water or other drinks in non-disposable containers.
  • Don’t litter – take a trash bag or other receptacle for collecting your trash.
  • Because of alligators, swimming is not recommended in the Creek.
  • If you are starting from Fisheating Creek Campground and heading upstream, note the stream becomes narrower and the current faster the further you go upstream. We offer shuttles to Burnt Bridge and Ingram’s Crossing for a relaxing downstream paddle.
  • It is always a good idea to let someone know where you are paddling and when you expect to return.

Save time! Complete the  Fisheating Creek Outpost Waiver prior to your visit to Fisheating Creek and bring it with you.
